Shade the UK welcomes two new Directors

We are delighted to share that Polly Turton (Head of Climate Action and Public Health) and Shreya Kapur (Head of Operations) have been appointed as Directors of Shade the UK. They will join fellow Director and Shade the UK Founder, Andy Love, to help guide and shape the next chapter of our work as a Community Interest Company (CIC).
Polly and Shreya have been a huge part of Shade the UK’s journey over the last few years. They have helped shape our strategic direction, deliver fantastic projects, build our network and raise our profile, all while bringing their own expertise, passion and dedication to tackling extreme heat and championing climate adaptation in the UK.
Their appointment reflects the significant contribution they have both made to Shade the UK, and the important role they will continue to play as our work evolves to achieve our mission of zero deaths from overheating in the UK, and a country where everyone can live, work and thrive during hot weather.
It’s an exciting time for us here at Shade the UK. We are continuing to deliver projects, research and guidance in response to the UK’s growing overheating risk, while building the strategic partnerships to secure the funding we need to amplify our impact across the country.
As demand for our work increases, so does the need for strong leadership and good governance. We welcome Polly and Shreya as Directors and look forward to their enhanced professional contributions to Shade the UK.
Reflecting on her role at Shade the UK, Polly said:
"Being one of three Directors of Shade the UK means a lot to me. As well as strengthening Shade the UK’s governance structure and processes, and celebrating the team’s collaborative ethos, it demonstrates how serious we are about raising our game to deliver our Theory of Change – zero deaths from overheating in the UK and a country where everyone can live, work and thrive in hot weather. It’s an ambitious but achievable mission in our view. We are up for it."

"Having been involved since the early days, it has been incredibly rewarding to see the organisation grow from an ambitious idea into a respected voice on overheating and climate adaptation in the UK. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far and even more excited to take on the role of Director and help shape the next phase for Shade the UK. As the risks of extreme heat continue to grow, I look forward to continue working alongside Andy, Polly, and the wider team to strengthen our impact towards a future where we all can thrive in hot weather."
