Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 16.07.26

These terms govern your use of www.shadetheuk.com (the "Site"), operated by Shade The UK CIC, a Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales (company number 12772623), registered office 26 Shakespeare Road, Bexleyheath, England, DA7 4SE ("we", "us", "our").

By using this Site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

1. Who we are

Shade the UK is a volunteer-led Community Interest Company working on adapting the built environment and public spaces to protect vulnerable people against extreme heat. We are not a registered charity — as a CIC, our activities are regulated by the CIC Regulator and Companies House rather than the Charity Commission.

2. Using this site

You may use the Site for lawful, non-commercial purposes connected to learning about our work, engaging with our campaigns, applying to be an ambassador/volunteer, making a donation, or purchasing merchandise. You must not:

  • Use the Site in any way that breaches applicable law or regulation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, our servers, or any systems connected to it
  • Use the Site to transmit or upload viruses, malware, or harmful code
  • Scrape, harvest, or misuse content or data from the Site without permission

3. Content and intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, all content on the Site — including text, guides (such as our Overheating Adaptation Guides), research, graphics, logos, and images — is owned by or licensed to Shade the UK and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You may view, download, and print content for personal, non-commercial use, provided you don't modify it and you keep any copyright/attribution notices intact. Any other use — including reproduction, republication, or commercial use — requires our prior written permission.

4. Guidance and information disclaimer

Our Info Hub, adaptation guides, heatwave advice, and related content are provided for general informational purposes to help raise awareness of heat resilience and adaptation. They are not a substitute for professional architectural, engineering, medical, or safety advice specific to your circumstances.

  • We take reasonable care to ensure information is accurate and up to date, but we make no warranties as to completeness or accuracy.
  • Following advice on the Site is entirely at your own risk. For anything safety-critical (e.g. structural changes to a building, health concerns during extreme heat), seek advice from an appropriately qualified professional or, in a medical emergency, contact the NHS or emergency services.

5. Donations and crowdfunding

  • Donations made through the Site are processed via Stripe; by donating you also agree to Stripe's terms.
  • Donations are non-refundable except where made in error, where you're entitled to a refund by law, or at our discretion.
  • Where crowdfunding campaigns run on a third-party platform, that platform's own terms apply to the transaction — we're not a party to that contract beyond being the beneficiary of funds raised.
  • We are not a registered charity, so donations are not eligible for Gift Aid.

6. Online shop

  • Product descriptions and pricing are accurate to the best of our knowledge but may occasionally contain errors, which we'll correct as soon as we become aware of them.
  • Payment is processed via Stripe
  • Delivery: [insert delivery timescales and areas covered]
  • Returns and cancellation: Under the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel most online orders within 14 days of receipt for a full refund, provided goods are returned in original condition. To cancel, email info@shadetheuk.co.uk. [Insert any exceptions, e.g. for personalised/perishable items.]
  • Faulty goods: your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected by this policy.

7. Ambassador and volunteer applications

Applying to become an ambassador or volunteer does not guarantee acceptance. We assess applications at our discretion and will let you know the outcome. Acceptance may be subject to additional terms specific to the role.

8. Links to other websites

The Site may link to third-party websites (e.g. partner organisations, social media, crowdfunding platforms, news sources). We aren't responsible for the content, accuracy, or privacy practices of external sites.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the Site.
  • Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the revised terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
