Shade the UK invited to 10 Downing Street

Last week, our CEO and Founder, Andy Love, was invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street, joining many others who have helped communities prepare for and respond to extreme heat across the UK this summer.
We were incredibly proud to be alongside individuals, organisations, frontline workers, volunteers and charities who have been working tirelessly to protect people, particularly those most vulnerable, from the many impacts of a changing climate here in the UK. It’s been inspiring to see the timely, critical and coordinated work carried out by so many to help safeguard public health and make the UK more heat resilient.
It was a privilege to see our team’s work and contribution recognised, and to reflect on how much the conversation around extreme heat has changed in the six years since we began. We know there is still a long way to go to adapt the UK to the realities of a hotter climate. We welcome Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recognition on this issue and look forward to seeing that momentum continue for many summers to come.
A huge thank you to our small but mighty team at Shade the UK past and present, our volunteers, our ambassadors and everyone who has helped champion our work and support our mission.
While the weather is finally getting cooler, we are not slowing down. Building on this summer’s momentum we are on a path to securing significant, strategic funding to help deliver our work at a national scale and help the UK prepare for next summer’s heat.
